“How much does hoarding cost?” is usually the first question a developer or site manager asks — and the hardest to get a straight answer to. Most suppliers default to “it depends” because hoarding is a made-to-measure product. That’s true, but it’s not helpful when you’re building a project budget.
This guide sets out realistic UK price ranges for site hoarding in 2026, explains what drives the cost up or down, and shows where spending slightly more delivers a visibly better result. What affects construction hoarding price?
1. The hoarding system application. An existing timber post and rail system — the most common choice — is dug into the ground and suits long-term builds. Where the ground can’t be penetrated (over services, on paving, inside shopping centres), an above-ground Kentledge® system uses concrete counterweights instead. Kentledge avoids costly service strikes and installs faster, but the blocks, transport and machinery add cost. For early groundworks phases, anti-climb mesh fencing with printed mesh banners is the budget option.
2. Aluminium composite (ACM) panels are the most cost-effective choice and stay flat, hold colour and last years longer — usually the better value on any hoarding standing more than a few months.
3. Print quality and finish. Standard vinyl graphics sit at the lower end; direct-to-board UV print with laminate at the upper end. Anti-graffiti lamination typically extends graphic life to 3–5 years and makes clean-up dramatically cheaper — one reason we include it as a standard finish.
4. Site conditions and access. Uneven ground, restricted access, working at height and night or weekend installs all add labour time. This is where a proper site survey protects your budget from surprises later.
5. Duration and aftercare. Long-term hoardings should be specified for durability from day one. Aftercare visits, cleaning and panel replacement can be priced in rather than bolted on.

If you have print-ready artwork, you’ll pay only for pre-press, print and installation. If not, allow £65-85 per hour for professional design.

Survey and installation: What you’re paying for.
The cheapest hoarding quote is often the one missing the steps that prevent expensive problems.
A pre-installation site survey measures the run to the millimetre, maps gates, street furniture and level changes, and flags hazards — so panels align seamlessly and nothing is reprinted at your expense. Installation should be carried out by CSCS, IPAF and PASMA certified teams with full RAMS documentation, which is mandatory on most managed sites. When comparing quotes, check whether survey, RAMS, fixings, skirting and making-good are included. A per-metre price that excludes them isn’t cheaper — it’s just incomplete.
